To many people’s surprise, on the first day of his trial on Aug 22, Bo Xilai denied all the charges against him in court. He called Tang Xiaolin, a witness to Bo’s bribery, a “mad dog”. He also called the written testimony from his wife “ridiculous” and that she was “insane”.

First, for Bo, he had nothing to lose. If he confessed to the crimes, he may be sentenced to 15 years in prison or to life imprisonment; if he did not, he may serve a life sentence or a suspended death sentence. The punishment makes no difference to Bo, and he is pretty certain that Xi Jinping does not dare put him to death.

Second, Bo denied the allegations to protect his son Bo Guagua. If he admitted giving Bo Guagua the dirty money from bribery, Bo Guagua would be guilty as a fence. Therefore, Bo’s denial protected Bo Guagua to some extent.

Third, Bo Xilai is waiting for his opportunity to bounce back. China’s current economic, environmental, and social crises make the country so fragile that it might collapse at any time. When this occurs, someone needs to stand out to pick up the pieces.

Meanwhile, if a crisis occurs, the people will blame those highest in power, past and present—Hu Jintao and Wen Jiabao, Xi Jinping and Li Keqiang—they can end up the scapegoats. Bo Xilai’s public image means everything to him, so as long as he did not confess, he remained a banner for the revival of the “hardline communism” represented by former Chairman Jiang Zemin and Zhou Yongkang, known as the “bloody gangster.”

Fourth, the “bloody ganster” is still demonstrating his existence and energy in many ways. Some thugs have been sent to Hong Kong to make trouble. In Hong Kong, they threaten some media bosses by smashing their car windows and burning newspapers that voice different opinions.

Then there’s the harassment against the locally registered Falun Gong. Everyone knows someone from the top is giving the orders.

Bo Xilai has trapped Xi Jinping, as he knows that Xi will not put him to death, and by denying everything, he seems to have a chance, while Xi simply cannot do anything to him. Now, all the world’s media and Chinese people are paying close attention to Bo’s case. It seems the CCP has tried to show the fairness of the trial.

The CCP (Chinese Communist Party) is an organized criminal gang. A gangland boss cannot be a weak man. Bo Xilai, a conspirator, showed a strong posture in court and in the world’s media. Once Xi Jinping compromises, Xi will not have a single chance to stay in the Party.

So, is there anything that Xi can do? Yes. He can trace who backed up Bo, the real man behind the scenes—Zhou Yongkang. Zhou Yongkang was in the Politburo Standing Committee, having a higher position than Bo. He is infamous internationally and has stirred up much Chinese domestic indignation. Therefore, if Xi can bring Zhou to justice, his strong leadership can be established.

No matter how much one plans things out, life always intervenes. Moral justice always beats political intrigue. In fact, the “bloody gangster” and the CCP are closely connected. The only way for Xi Jinping to gain the upper hand with them is to fully expose the crime of live organ harvesting.
