‘You Are Welcome’ in Chinese

Bú kèqì (不客氣) is you are welcome” in Chinese. The literal meaning in English is “not at all”, as if to say that it was no trouble to do whatever you did that made someone say thank you to you.

There are many other ways to express this in Chinese, but bú kèqì is commonly used as the most official way to respond when someone says thank you. When speaking casually, this phrase would be considered too formal and you could respond with other less formal or official phrases such as: búyòng xiè (不用謝), or méi shì (沒事).
