Back in January 2014, Ma Huateng, also called Pony Ma, chairman and co-founder of Tencent Holdings Ltd., became China’s richest man as shares in his Internet messaging and app company made record earnings. He now sits at the number two position, bumped down by Wang Jianlin, a real estate and entertainment tycoon.

Pony, the 42-year-old’s English name, is listed in Bloomberg’s Billionaires Index as having a net worth of $13.8 billion. He lives in Shenzhen, China, and is married.

The co-founder, who stepped down from his position in the company recently, is worth approximately $7.1 billion, according to Bloomberg.

Tencent’s earnings are soaring due to its popular WeChat, a.k.a Weixin, an instant messaging and social networking app.
