Famous for being the richest man in Hong Kong and indeed Asia, Ka-shing Li is just as human as the rest of us.

Solina Chau, Ka-shing’s girlfriend and business partner, confided at a recent meeting in China that he worries at night about:

  • the worsening wealth gap in China,
  • the deficiency of land and water there,
  • and the loss of trust between Chinese people.

China makes up 20 percent of the world’s population, but only has 9 percent of the world’s arable land. Less than 6 percent of the drinking water there is safe for human consumption.

Solina added that Ka-shing would like to help solve these three huge issues with a particular focus on technology. He has been investing in areas like agriculture, the energy sector, bio-engineering, environmental management, medical care, and data management.
