Two Hong Kong celebrities hit the news big-time this week when director Oxide Pang‘s affair with actress Liddy Lee went public, and the model’s father then shot his neighbor, later suiciding after an armed police siege.
Liddy’s father, Li Tak Yan, 51, was divorced and unemployed, according to the Straits Times. He shot his neighbor three times late on Saturday night, and then locked himself in his Kowloon Bay apartment during a six-hour standoff with police, finally shooting himself in the mouth on Sunday morning.
Police found two pistols in Li’s flat along with 43 rounds of ammunition, and Guangdong police are helping to confirm where the weapons originated, because illegal firearms tend to enter Hong Kong through the mainland, the Shanghaiist reported.
Liddy has been keeping a low profile since the affair was outed last week, when the pair were photographed hugging and kissing in public, and has deleted the contents on her Weibo and Facebook pages, according to the Hong Kong Standard.
Oxide, who directed The Eye, has been attempting to repair his marriage to actress Angelica Lee by flying to Malaysia to be with her.
