WATCH: 1, 2, 3, Drown! Chinese Kids Prepare for Insanely Packed Swimming Pools

Students got a lesson in drowning and water safety ahead of summer vacation at a primary school in Henan Province, on June 9.

The idea of putting their faces in the water basins was to let them experience the sensation of drowning, according to Ecns.com, helping them understand the potential danger of water.

This seems like the next best thing to actually learning how to swim. Developing a fear of water…considering the unbelievably packed public pools in China, it might be for the best.

Last year during a heat wave, footage went viral in China of a wave pool in Sichuan Province. The first three minutes of the footage is pretty crazy, all those people in floaty tubes, squeezed up next to each other. I wonder how they could even attempt to get out to use the rest room, or how a kid would ever come back up once gone under…

But then it pans left (skip to 3:20), across a sea of floating people, and it is actually unfathomable. Maybe in the thousands? It’s hard to say.
