11 Mystical Chinese Beasts to to Haunt your Dreams (But no Dragons)

A multitude of impossible creatures, mystical animals, and divine beasts abound in Chinese folklore. These creatures are often found in the art and literature of Asian countries. The video above mentions the following 11 creatures:

  2. 白澤 Bái Zé
  3. 夔 Kuí
  4. 麒麟 Qí Lín
  5. 獬豸Xiè Zhì
  6. 犼 Hǒu
  7. 饕餮 Tāo Tiè
  8. 牛頭 Niú Tóu
  9. 馬面 Mǎ Miàn
  10. 孫悟空 Sūn Wù Kōng (the Monkey King)
  11. 年 Nián

Some of these creatures hold no resemblance to any you’ve seen on earth. Some resemble dragons, and many hold tremendous, earthshaking powers.

There are said to be over 11,000 mythological Chinese creatures. Many are categorized in the ancient Chinese text, The Classic of Mountains and Seas.
