Stomping on noodles? Sleeping in noodles? Then you gonna eat those noodles?

Disgusted noodle eaters across the Web have been sharing photos of factory employees in China getting very personal with their noodles. The factory has since been shut down, according to Chinese media reports.

Dubbed “Stinky Feet Rice Noodles” by bloggers, these photos showed up June 6 on Sina Weibo.

Chinese netizens were outraged. One commented: “Gross! These rice noodles should be served on the tables of officials!”

The photos were reportedly taken on January 31, right before the Chinese New Year. At first, management gave a pretty solid excuse to the effect of: Hey, it’s ahead of a holiday and they were over-worked.

Said another netizen: “My high school chemistry teacher said she visited a rice noodle factory before. This is common—they do things like this all the time. The heavy workload before the New Year is just an excuse.”

Then management announced that the workers have been fired, and the factory’s been revamped.

A little too late? The same factory was already involved in a hygiene scandal last year. Now the owner may face a fine or jail time.

The factory has been identified as Tongcheng Rice Product Factory in Daojiao County of Guangdong Province. Responding to the fiasco, authorities are asking the 15 other rice line factories in the area to do voluntary check-ups.

Mmmmm… I for one am not convinced. I’m definitely staying away from those rice noodles!
