A toddler in Eastern China may be the world’s youngest alcoholic, literally screaming for beer and wine, and turning his tiny nose up when offered milk or juice.

Known by the alias Cheng Cheng, the little boy lives in Anhui Province, and first tried wine aged 10 months, when his father gave him a few drops on chopsticks to stop him crying, Hua Xun Finance reported.

But the remedy worked a little too well: Cheng Cheng had already drunk his first bottle of beer before his first birthday, and can now reportedly down a whole bottle without any obvious side effects.

The boy’s family have taken to hiding bottles of booze in different places so he can’t see them.

Cheng Cheng’s habit has earned him the nickname “little wine god,” after local media picked up the story. Medical experts and social services are less amused, however, because the alcohol could be harming his internal organs, and some people want him put into care.

His mother is also worried about legal consequences, but they just can’t get him to like soft drinks: He only has eyes for alcohol bottles, and cries whenever he sees adults drinking. Sometimes when he gets really noisy, they just give in and let him have a sip.

This story is rather like the disturbing one we covered recently about a little Chinese boy smoking, while nearby adults laughed. We just hope Cheng Cheng’s parents stop giving into his tantrums, and the toddler gets to stay with his family.
