A 22-year-old Australian guy who was in a coma for two weeks could only speak in Chinese when he woke up, and could also write Chinese characters.
Benjamin McMahon was hospitalized after a car accident two years ago. When he regained consciousness, he spoke fluent Mandarin, but couldn’t speak any English.
Ben had spent time in Beijing, and learned some Chinese, but was never fluent. He recovered his ability to speak English after several days, and decided to become a tour guide for Chinese people visiting Australia. He also began a masters at a college in Shanghai.
The story is popular on Weibo at the moment, and some Chinese bloggers joked that they would try and get hit by a car before their English test to get a high score.
