Amazon recently announced its international headquarters, warehouse, and distribution center will be set up in the Shanghai Free Trade Zone, according to Sina News, and thereafter, customers in China can purchase things from global Amazon online stores, not just limited to Amazon China, without additional charges on the commodities’ prices.
“Delivery will take 7 to 10 days”, and “hopefully customers in China can place order in the fourth quarter of this year”, said Wang Peng, the general manager of the Asia E-Pay Company.
A fair number of Chinese netizens are excited about this announcement, especially those who often buy stuff from overseas but have to wait up to 3 months to receive them. Regarding the exciting news, many netizens have such questions as whether they need to pay in US dollars for commodities from the US or in RMB, and if tariff will be added on their purchases. Some netizens predict Amazon’s new strategy will hit the “buying agent” business.
