The North Korean capital, Pyongyang has been placed under some form of lockdown, reported the New Focus International news web site.
It has raised further speculation about who is actually charge of the murderous Stalinist state given that the current dictator, 31 year old Kim Jong-un, has not been in the public eye for nearly a month.
Probably the last time anyone saw Kim Jong-un was this bombastic propaganda video footage above released in early September which showed the Dear Leader limping around with a bunch of military cronies.
Toshimitsu Shigemura, a professor at Tokyo’s Waseda University, told the UK’s Telegraph, that the Pyongyang lockdown indicated that something big was happening such as:
- An attempted coup or that the authorities there have uncovered some sort of plot against the leadership
- Some senior officials of the regime have attempted to defect and they are closing the escape routes, such as the airport and the border
A former top North Korean official recently said that Kim Jong-un is no longer in control of the hermit nation and that it’s run by a faction of regime officials reported Vice.
Just to stir the rumor pot more, the number two and number three in North Korean official hierarchy visited Seoul in neighboring South Korea somewhat unexpectedly for a chat on Oct 4 reported AP.
Guess we can only stay tuned.
