Hong Kong is the financial center where East meets West. It has more world-best restaurants than most Asian countries.
You may not know that Hong Kong is now also the world’s largest wine auction center.
On Sept. 19-20, 2014, Acker Merrill’s first wine auction of the Fall season in Hong Kong generated US$5.8 million in sales. Collectors from Hong Kong, Mainland China, Taiwan, and Macau all want to own something of value, and great wines are hot right now. Over 120 new world records were set.
Competition for the sale’s Top Lot ended in a tie between two famous French regions and names: a rare 12-bottle case of 1978 La Tache, and a historic 65 vintage vertical of Chateau Latour, both of which sold for HK$543,400 (US$70,116).
