For the 25th anniversary of the Reebok Pump sneaker, shoe companies are getting their chance to customize the iconic shoe.

In this iteration, Shoe Gallery gives the sneaker a design that is said to resemble the type of pump used to help sufferers of asthma. What a ridiculous inspiration for shoe design.

The Reebok Pump is a shoe with a small air pump. The pump is used to tighten the shoe around your foot. The pump part you press is shaped like a small basketball. The shoe is fun.

The shoes were first seen worn on the basketball courts by pro player Dominique Wilkins. The pump brand of shoes then spread into other pro sports.

I never had pumps as a kid, probably because of the price. But those who came into gym class wearing a pair of pumps had instant coolness. Everybody would surround him for a chance to pump up his sneakers.
