Mark Zuckerberg, 30, is the CEO of a $200 billion company, the world’s largest social networking site, with 3500 employees.
Just what kind of woman could capture a rich and handsome man’s heart?
Priscilla Chan was brought up by her grandmother, who was her emotional pillar. Although her grandmother only speaks Chinese, she is a sensible and reasonable woman. She instilled in Priscilla the principles of being a good person, and taught her to have confidence and independence in her work and life, and to be strong in the face of difficulties.
Priscilla’s school teacher said: “When she was only 13 years old, she asked me how to get into Harvard. At the time, I was shocked. In so many years of teaching, I had never had a 13-year-old child ask me this question. She knew exactly what she wanted. When she was finally admitted to Harvard, she said happily: “I told you that I can get into Harvard!”
In 2003 at a Harvard party she met Mark. She described Mark as very interesting and said: “He was this nerdy guy who was just a little bit out there.” On their first date, Mark bluntly said that he’d rather go out on a date than study at home.
Later, when Mark dropped out of Harvard and moved to Silicon Valley to create Facebook, Priscilla still studied hard at Harvard.
After getting her Bachelor degree in biology at Harvard, she was admitted to the University of California School of Medicine in 2008. In the week before their wedding, Priscilla successfully got her license to practice pediatric medicine.
In order to please his girlfriend, Mark was tutored for one hour in Chinese every morning so he could communicate with Priscilla’s grandmother.
On May 20, 2012, just a day after FB was listed on the stock exchange, Mark and Priscilla married, after a love journey of nine years. The world’s youngest self-made billionaire, Mark Zuckerberg, held their wedding in his backyard. It was a small wedding, with fewer than 100 guests attending. All dishes were provided by their two favorite local eateries.
Not long after their wedding, Priscilla encouraged Mark to donate $120 million to an outdated school in San Francisco. Later, Bill Gates said: “Mark’s fiancee Priscilla is concerned about education, so he gave the school a huge donation. I started to donate at the age of 40, but they are starting now.”
In 2010, Mark and Priscilla also joined Gates and Warren Buffett in promising to donate at least half of their wealth to charity, either during their lifetime or after death.
Mark also donated 110 million Facebook shares to the Silicon Valley Community Foundation.
