A Dutch solar bike path project is turning heads as it opens this week to the public. The road integrates solar panels right into the bike path.

The solar power that the road generates will be fed right into the nations grid.

The project is happening in the town of Krommenie, and is being touted as the world first public road to include embedded solar cells.  The cells are part of the pre-built concrete slabs, which have been developed after years of testing.   The 230 foot long bike path is the first of its kind, but developers hope it will inspire similar roads throughout the world.

How a solar power system works

If you want to know more about how a solar power system works you can find a lot of information on different websites on the net.

In a nutshell, a solar power system is not just useful to power an e-bike, or a calculator, but can also be used to power your home.

“Anyone who wants to decrease the amount of money that they are spending on their electrical bill each month and become more independent should consider installing a solar energy system at their home.”

Plus you would be doing something good for the environment. It’s the sum of little drops that eventually fill the pond.
