Let’s Support #IAMTAWFIK Libya’s Hashtag of Hope

Peacefully fighting for a civil society is a deadly game in Libya, a country increasingly under threat from extremist militant jihadists.

The above video is a moving report by the BBC about the assassination of teenage peace activist Tawfik Bensaud and his cousin’s efforts to honor his memory.

Thousands have communicated via social media their solidarity with the murdered Tawfik through the hashtag: #IAMTAWFIK

There’s also a Facebook page supporting the online campaign of which include images of support, some are reproduced below.

Tawfik was killed on September 20 by Islamist militants who themselves make use of social media but to spread fear. Tawfik’s best friend and fellow activist, Sami Alkwafi, was also murdered by the militants.

Killings of young Libyan activists who aspire for a freer society are sadly continuing.

Remember: #IAMTAWFIK
