Whale Shark Processing Factory Exposed in China (Graphic Video)

A Hong Kong-based marine conservation organization revealed earlier this year that a factory in China was killing over 600 whale sharks a year, even though the species is internationally protected.

The investigation found that shark fins were dried in Zhejiang Province and sent to Guangdong Province, where they were sold to restaurant owners, along with the lips, stomach, and flesh.

The skins were sold as leather in the bag trade, and the livers were particularly valuable as the oil can be used in skin care products, and omega-3 supplements.
