Ever Wonder How Catnip Gets Cats High?

Cats really do get high on catnip, and exhibit some pretty bizarre behavior. They seem addicted to its strong scent, and the aromatic oils make them frisky and playful as they chew and roll on the leaves.

As the catnip effects become greater, the cats roll around in ecstasy and even chase imaginary mice.

All this odd behavior is triggered by chemicals resembling those in tomcat urine, but catnip also affects male cats.

So next time you give your cat a catnip toy and it starts acting strangely, you’ll know why.
