Conspiracy theories range from the plausible, the implausible, to the implausible-but-what-if?
Either way, they can suck you in and spit you out if you’re not careful, so proceed with caution.
Here are my top five conspiracy theories for 2014.
5. The U.S. government spewed plastic snow over the South.
Back in January, snow engulfed much of the U.S. Even the South. Atlanta, GA came to a literal standstill as snow pummeled the city. Somehow, some residents realized that this particular snow appeared not to melt and it turned black if burnt with a lighter.
So conspiracy theorists linked this to a covert government plot – i.e. chemtrails. Nuff said.
Debunking this, scientists said that snow often turns straight to gas when heated and that butane lighter fluid will leave a black mark on whatever it burns. Please excuse the F bombs in the second video below.
4. Ebola is a bio-weapon made by the U.S. government.
First, a newspaper in Liberia claimed that the Ebola virus was designed by the U.S. military to depopulate the planet.
Next, Texas congressman Steve Stockman said that President Obama was deliberately making Americans vulnerable so that he could use emergency powers to take over the economy.
And so on and so forth, with everyone from Iran to the Nation of Islam, to a professor chiming in as to the same.
It’s worth noting though that the U.S. Center For Disease Control have patented the virus (which is true) for the purposes of profiting from or restricting research on a vaccine.
3. ISIS was created by the U.S. government. It’s leader is actually a Jewish actor or Mossad agent.
Documents supposedly released by Edward Snowden (which don’t actually seem to exist) say that British, American, and Israeli intelligence created the organization to get all the extremists in the world to flock to one place so that they could be conveniently eradicated.
They also say that the leader of the brutal jihadists Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi (pictured below) is really Elliot Shimon, a Mossad trained operative.
A more plausible theory is a story about how ISIS’ leadership was born in a U.S. prison in Iraq.
2.The comet-landing was actually an attempt to contact an alien craft.
An email made its way into the public consciousness that was supposedly sent by a whistle-blower from the European Space Agency(ESA).
He claimed that the comet had unnatural terrain and machine-like parts. What really set the speculation going though is ESA itself when they confirmed that the comet had been “singing” for years a mysterious sound they have been unable to decipher.
1. The Sandy Hook shooting was a government attempt to get support for gun control.
It’s out there. I’m not saying a thing but the conspiracy actually exists. Like any conspiracy theory, if you dig deep enough into the details and join some dots to your liking then you can concoct almost any scenario you can imagine.
Compare these two sites to see for yourself how facts can be twisted, distorted, and outright fabricated to look like the truth.
