‘Blue stars’ have been lighting up the shores of Shandong Province for the past few days.

Bloggers captured the beauty of Gudong beach in Dongying after dark on Jan. 6, and posted their stunning pictures online. Some said it’s a paradise on Earth while others doubted the authenticity of the photos.

Media reported that luminescent microbes such as dinoflagellates tend to create a similar fluorescence in the sea.

But experts at the Ocean University of China said the cause could only be confirmed after the sea samples have been taken and studied, according to NTDTV.
