John Legend and Common Pack Civil Rights Message Into ‘Glory’

This video accompanies footage from Selma, the new film about Martin Luther King, Jr. and the Civil Rights Movement.

It’s another great track from that contemporary genius John Legend. At this point in his career, he’s really cemented a sound all his own. And Common sets to lyrics a descriptive story to accompany powerful imagery and emotional music.

Martin Luther King, Jr.’s birthday just passed this January 15th. And in the USA, we have a holiday coming up on Monday the 19th in honor of it. If we can reflect on the journey taken by Martin Luther King, Jr. and his followers, just as this video does, there would be less violence in the world, or at least people would be less apt to use violence as a way to deal with issues.

If you’re not aware of the movie, it details the action led by King to get black people voting rights in the southern USA during the 1960s. Of course, his battle garnered support beyond just the black community, and beyond just the USA.
