Drinking games don’t just happen at American frats, as this dangerous drinking game is now exploding in China.
Have you ever heard of the Baijiu Challenge? It’s taking off right now on Chinese social media, and it takes a popular Chinese alcoholic drink to a different and dangerous level.
Baijiu is a strong spirit that contains about 60 percent alcohol. The challenge allegedly started when a video of a man drinking a liter (six bottles) of Baijiu in 10 seconds went viral.
From there, the fad took off, and people then started trying to outdo him, and posting their video results on social media.
Numerous rumors then went around social media that the man who started the Baijiu challenge died from the binge drinking. As you will see in the video, he didn’t die, and tells people: “I’m sending this message to clarify that I’m very well. Secondly, I want to say that you need to be careful when drinking.”
The health dangers associated with this “game” are apparent, and people are being warned against over drinking, and not to promote binge drinking on social media.
Excessive alcohol use is a leading cause of preventable death in the U.S. This led to approximately 88,000 deaths per year from 2006-2010, and accounted for 1 in 10 deaths among working-age adults aged 20-64 years.
There’s nothing at all smart about dangerous binge drinking.
