The thick smog that covers the city of Beijing has made the city unlivable. This isn’t according to outside experts or some tourist organization, it’s according to Wang Anshun, the mayor of Beijing.

At the local Communist Party conference last week Mayor Anshun told state run media that the government’s efforts to stop the air pollution in Beijing have not worked. He called the inability to limit the pollution levels “worrisome”.

He went on to note:

“At the present time, however, Beijing is not a livable city.”

Beijing has a population of 21 million and its pollution problem is multifaceted but most of it is due to industrial stacks and coal plants.

Aside from environmental concerns how else is Beijing “unlivable”?
