In a hardly surprising move, the Chinese Communist Party has condemned a possible meeting between U.S. President Barack Obama and the Tibetan holy leader the Dalai Lama.

The White House issued a statement saying that President Obama would be attending an event with the exiled Tibetan leader which prompted Beijing to say they opposed any type of meeting.

China’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Hong Lei said: “China is opposed to any nation or government using the Tibet issue to interfere in China’s domestic affairs, and opposed to any country’s leader meeting with the Dalai Lama in any manner.”

According to the White House:

President Obama has a great relationship with the Dalai Lama .

He has meet with the Tibetan leader on three occasions, with the most recent being last spring which greatly infuriated Communist officials.

Communist China has a long and brutal history of persecuting Tibetans. Collectively, the communist authorities human rights record in relation to their treament of not only Tibetans but Uighurs, democracy advocates, human rights defenders, house Christians and Falun Gong practitioners is atrocious.
