Every been in an unfamiliar city and wished you had your own tour guide? Your wish has now been (partially) granted, at least for the city of San Francisco anyway.
As of right now there are seven different expeditions you can take with the audio tour around San Francisco. The current tours focus on popular destinations within San Francisco, such as Fisherman’s Wharf and the Tenderloin.
Each excursion costs just $5 each, or you can buy a year-long ‘all tours’ for just under $20. If you ask me, that’s pretty cheap for a local’s knowledge of the area you’re traveling in.
The creator of the app said that the creation is different from other travel apps because: “Most of the audio tours that exist today are about what’s popular inside museums…” Mason goes onto to say that:
“What we are trying to do is turn the world into a museum.”
The app lets the listener choose the pace of the tale, so you don’t feel rushed to get to a certain place at a certain time. You’re free to enjoy the city and explore around. The app also has a function to link up and sync stories with other people nearby, so you can invite your friends to also join you.
It’s like Yelp on steroids. Better yet, it’s like Yelp and NPR Radio had a knowledgeable baby that talks and guides you around. Maybe I took that analogy too far, but it’s pretty cool right?
