On Feb. 11, 2010, NASA sent their Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO) hurtling toward the Sun, which it has been observing and photographing ever since.
Five years on, NASA has made a video showcasing highlights from the SDO’s incredible pictures.
Images are captured around once per second, and they are very detailed and truly captivating.
You will see
- Massive explosions
- Giant clouds of solar material hurled out into space
- Giant loops hovering in the corona
- Huge sunspots growing and shrinking
- Intense solar flares
Here’s a massive eruption:
This fiery looping rain is incredible:
I could watch this all day, it’s just amazing. Watching this footage, the Sun acts just like a gigantic, dynamic living entity.
