In 60 Seconds See What Russian President Vladimir Putin is Up To

There’s only so much that can be covered in a minute but the upside of that is when it’s done well and things are short and condensed, it goes straight to the point.

And for me the take away from the above video in relation to Russian President Vladimir Putin’s aggression in the Ukraine and elsewhere in Europe are his past comments on the fall of the Soviet Union.

“Above all, we should acknowledge that the collapse of the Soviet Union was a major geopolitical disaster of the century,” Putin said in a state of the nation address to the country’s top politicians and parliament in 2005.

The next lines below are what he said next, which is not covered in the video.

“As for the Russian nation, it became a genuine drama. Tens of millions of our co-citizens and co-patriots found themselves outside Russian territory. Moreover, the epidemic of disintegration infected Russia itself,” he said.

It’s ten years since he said those words and today relations between Russia and the West are rock-bottom, they’re pretty much at Cold War levels.

Last year Russia became the third-largest military spender in the world in 2014, and, despite a struggling economy, it’s planning to increase that expenditure.

So why do you think Putin ramping up Russia’s military?

Do you think he has aspirations to remake the Soviet Empire?
