Special scenes have been showing up frequently in China in recent years.

Early on March 19, several buildings suddenly showed up in the middle of the ocean. People walking along the beach near Lingshan Bay on the west coast of Qingdao, Shandong Province, noticed these mysterious objects above the water.

They were surprised and thought it looked really weird, and some posted photos of the scene online. The pictures immediately went viral and were reported on by Chinese media.

Bloggers guessed that it might be a “mirage,” which is a naturally occurring optical phenomenon when light rays are distorted to create a displaced image of distant objects or of the horizon.

Similar scenes occurred in the same area in 2010 and 2011 as well, according to NTDTV.

Are these omens? What are these spectacular images telling us?
