Human’s are able to experience a vast spectrum of colors. This is because we have 3 types of color sensitive cones in our eyes, which can detect most common colors in the spectrum.
However, if you are color blind, you have a mutant cone that is less sensitive to either green or red. Therefore, the color spectrum you see is hindered, containing less red or green. For example, if there is less red seen, more green must be added to compensate. This will change the experience of the color you see.
But you only know what you are used to seeing, and many color blind people are not aware of their condition.
We all see colors differently, and it’s almost impossible to perceive another’s experience of color—unless you take a color sensitivity test to get more of an understanding.
Super human vision, a rare gift of sight
Most people are capable of seeing a million different colors. That seems like a lot, doesn’t it?
Not compared to those women who posses “super human vision,” and are able to differentiate different subtle hues of over a hundred times this number again.
Scientists have discovered that to have super human vision, you need to posses 4 different types of cones, instead of the normal 3 that most people have.
People with this super-sensory function, called tetrachromacy, are rare, and they are always women.
