British police are conducting investigations into whether allegations of child sexual molestation made against Edward Heath, a former British prime minister, were covered up.
The original abuse claims were made in the 1990s against Heath, who led Britain from 1970 and 1974, reports the BBC.
The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) has said they are now investigating claims made by a retired senior officer who said the allegations against Heath were not acted upon by the territorial police in Wiltshire, in England’s southwest.
“It is alleged that a criminal prosecution was not pursued, when a person threatened to expose that Sir Edward Heath may have been involved in offences concerning children,” said an IPCC statement.
“In addition to this allegation, the IPCC will examine whether Wiltshire Police subsequently took any steps to investigate these claims.”
Wiltshire Police reopen investigations
Wiltshire police have announced that they are reopening inquiries into the abuse claims and are calling on anyone with information, or who were victims of child abuse, to come forward. According to The Telegraph, a Wiltshire police spokesman said:
‘Sir Edward Heath has been named in relation to offenses concerning children.’
The spokesman went on to say: “He lived in Salisbury for many years, and we would like to hear from anyone who has any relevant information that may assist us in our inquiries, or anyone who believes they may have been a victim.”
In 1975, Heath lost the leadership of the Conservative Party to Margaret Thatcher. He retired from politics in 2001, and died 4 years later at the age 89. Below is archive footage of him conducting a Christmas carol concert in 1971:
Heath never married and did not speak of his sexuality. It was widely rumored that he was a homosexual, according to The Guardian.
Sources talking to various alternative media have previously alleged that Heath was a pedophile and even worse.
The news of the investigations into Heath’s suspected abuse of children comes on the heels of a whole range of criminal sex and child molestation scandals that have exposed sordid elements within the British political elite.
