The beach-look is basically the effortless style that is obtained when having fun at the beach, and not caring what your hair’s doing, right?
Right. But here’s the contradiction: To obtain this free-and-easy look, you do need to care about your hair and put in some effort.
For perfect beach-hair, you want to hit just the right balance of caring, but not looking like you care.
Great, we all understand the beach-look philosophy, so now you’re on your way to beach-hair bliss!
The essential ingredient for beach-hair is saltwater. Unfortunately, most of us can’t dip our heads into the ocean every morning before we style, so we can cheat and make our own natural sea-salt spray.
This homemade spray will add texture, movement, and volume to your hair. It is particularly helpful just after you wash your hair, when it’s all fluffy, soft, and straight. In his video, Jordan O’Brian shows you how to make it.
Short beach hair
In his tutorial, the Beardbrand-man demonstrates how to get the ultimate “beach-bum” look. He first uses a sea-salt spray, and then adds wave and movement by scrunching his damp hair. He also adds a little product for staying power, then keeps scrunching.
You can either dry this style with a hairdryer, or let it air dry naturally.
Long beach hair
A cascading mass of waves and lot’s of texture is the signature beachy-look for women. You can either achieve this with curling irons, or by twisting your hair up into buns while damp, letting it dry, and set over 6 hours or less.
The latter way is my choice, as it takes just minutes of your time, needs no special equipment, and it doesn’t damage your hair with heat. Only it needs to be done in advance, so the night before is perfect.
In this short tutorial, Vivian Vo-Farmer shows you how even super-straight Asian hair can take on waves and life of it’s own.
Spray on sea-salt spray before beginning this style to encourage the formation of curls and add condition. When finished, spray hair lightly with hairspray to hold curls all day.
