In the home, a pet is a special part of the family. They give us unconditional love and want nothing in return. Pets are a unique family member, communicating with us in their own language. When it is time for that long-time companion to go, it is just as heartbreaking as saying goodbye to our human family members.
On August 29, in a secluded funeral home in Shanghai, a small funeral with formal procedures was slowly progressing. However, what made it different was that in the 3-foot-long coffin, there was a lovely little dog lying there.
The 9-year-old dog, Evin, was a pet from a Shanghai family that passed away three days ago from a heart attack.
The dog’s owner couldn’t help crying once she entered the mourning room.
“Evin was a very good girl. She was like our family. I’m still not used to the quite nights without any sound of Evin…”
The dog’s owner held a formal ceremony to say goodbye to Evin. She found a funeral service company for pets from a neighbor’s recommendation. The founder of the company was a young entrepreneur, Zhou Jinxia, who gave up his own career in computer science five years ago and established this company in Shanghai. The pet funeral service is a newly emerging business in China.
Zhou believed the last farewell should be in peace and harmony, whether it’s for human or a pet. Evin’s funereal was held with formal procedures, according to Tencent News. The dog’s owner and other families laid wreaths for the dog and gave eulogies. They viewed Evin for the last time, before the casket closed.
Evin was dressed well for her departure. She was wearing a lovely red coat and got two stuffed toys as companions. The dog’s owner stroked her head before the casket was finally closed. The owner told the reporter in tears: “We will not raise a second pet. It was just too hard to see her go.”
