Rice is a staple food in most countries around the world, but I bet you didn’t know rice could be used in so many other ways. Try out these great uses for rice.
Clean a coffee grinder
To freshen up your coffee grinder, blend half a cup of rice in your machine. This will absorb the residual smell of the coffee beans, as well as sharpen up the grinder blades.
Make a warm/cold pack
Fill up a clean sock with rice and tie with some string. Put in the microwave oven and heat for a minute. To increase to desired temperature, increase timing by an addition of 30 seconds. For a cold pack, simply put it in the freezer.
Dry soaked electrical devices
If your mobile phone is drenched in water, stay calm. Take out the battery, put the phone in a bag or bowl of rice. Wait overnight for the rice to absorb the moisture. Do not blow-dry as it may damage the parts.
Metal tools will get rusty when exposed to air. Putting a small pack of rice in your tool box can help keep it dry, and thus prevent your tools from easily rusting.
Clean glass and vases
A narrow necked glass or vase is difficult to clean. Pour rice and soap water inside and shake. The dirt should come off instantly.
Delay silver from tarnishing
Silverware needs regular polishing to prevent it from discoloring. Putting a small cupful of rice in your cabinet can absorb air moisture and slow down the oxidization process, and thus enable a longer duration between polishes.
