After watching the Shen Yun show, former reporter from China’s Guilin TV station, Zeng Jieming, said the show perfectly displayed the long lost beautiful essence of traditional Chinese culture, and believes that it could change the West’s image of Chinese people and culture.
“This is the first time I watched Shen Yun’s performance, and I was indeed deeply touched. In China, I’d never seen such a glamorous performance depicting the profound traditional culture.”
Jieming explained that while he was living in China, he was strongly influenced by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), their materialism and atheism, as well as their concept of Westernization.
Because of this he was unable to understand the importance of traditional Chinese culture. It was only after he had immigrated to the U.S. that he finally recognized the unique advantages.
“After seeing the Shen Yun show today, I think it’s lived up to its reputation. As the name implies, it’s the beauty of divine beings. It’s reviving the profound Chinese civilization and the divinely inspired Chinese culture,” he said.
He noted how China used to be known as the divine land, and that Shen Yun had perfectly recalled the long lost gracefulness of the traditional culture.
“Shen Yun demonstrates the genuine gracefulness of Chinese people. The performance is very vivid and magnificent.
“I think the Shen Yun show has ushered in a new dimension for the profound traditional Chinese culture in the Western society. It will significantly change Westerners’ image of Chinese people and the traditional Chinese culture.”
As he tried to hold back his tears, he explained:
“I was especially moved by the dance program depicting famous Chinese calligrapher, Wang Xizhi’s. It splendidly showcased the exquisiteness and elegance of the traditional Chinese costumes.
“The dance also fully demonstrated the Oriental gracefulness, which is a subtle beauty with delicate spirituality. It is something that cannot be found in Western culture.”
He went on to say how he felt that the show had the ability to make you feel like you were returning to your original true self, saying:
“What touched me most was that after watching the show, I had the feeling of returning to my original true self from the bottom of my heart. This is a very high level (of performance) that cannot be achieved by ordinary people.
“The melody of the song sung by the tenor, coupled with its lyrics, seemed to be a clear spring that could calm people down, it’s something really meaningful.”
While talking about the divine beauty of the traditional Chinese culture that was demonstrated by the Shen Yun artists, Jieming explained that:
“What was implied in their performance gave me a deep understanding of the divine beauty of traditional Chinese culture and the strength of belief. This divine strength of belief is actually something that is being destroyed by the Chinese Communist Party nowadays.
“Following China’s reform and opening-up policies, the Chinese people have been corrupted by the mentalities of money worshiping and utilitarianism.”
As he watched some Westerns moved by the show, Jieming felt that:
“As the strength of belief is declining while entrepreneurship and technology are becoming more and more important, human souls have become more and more lonely. They have found something that was almost lost, so they were deeply moved.”
He then explained that because Shen Yun shows the essence of traditional Chinese culture it could save China.
“Because China is an atheist country, people nowadays are ill-minded. Though there are problems with Western countries, they aren’t as urgent as China. The evil atheism has resulted in great disasters in China.
“The Chinese regime’s atrocities will really invoke curses and karma, as good begets good and evil leads to evil. After the destruction of the essence of traditional Chinese culture by the Chinese regime, China needs to return to its tradition.”
“I believe Shen Yun will perform in China sooner or later. I look forward that this day to come,” he added.
Zeng Jieming is a former reporter for the Guilin Television Station in China, and was persecuted by the Chinese regime due to writing dissident articles and participating in anti-authoritarian activities. He was forced into exile and moved overseas in 2008.
