Good parents will worry about how their children will turn out, so they try to give them as much as they can during their childhood.
Leaving your children ten acres of land, ten houses, ten cars, or even ten million dollars does not make you a good parent, but helping your children to acquire life enriching qualities will.
Here are some life-enriching qualities to teach your children:
1. Listen with patience
First, we must train our children to listen patiently. Listening is really important! Many people nowadays lack patience, and they don’t allow other people to explain, and assume they know better. However, very often that is not the case.
2. Read diligently
Without diligent reading habits, a child will not learn the power of persistence. Once children have learnt good reading habits, they will read in any spare moment, and also when it’s critical. Being able to read quickly is also important as one can acquire information fast and share it with others. Reading is not limited to abstruse texts; it also includes reading information online and keeping up-to-date with current events.
3. Communication skills
Without good communication skills, one will find it difficult to get along in society and may miss out on opportunities for personal development. Communication between parents and children is also very important in families.
4. Writing skills
It is very difficult to pursue ideal career opportunities in modern society without good writing skills. Writing is also a good way to express oneself and to showcase one’s abilities.
A lot of children today are spoiled and possess no living skills, such as cooking, washing clothes, changing a car tire, or painting furniture. This is not proof of your quality of character, but it is an indication that you don’t know how to take care of yourself. Everyone must have the ability to survive, so children need to be taught basic survival skills.
Perseverance will earn people’s respect and admiration. People who persevere are rare. When one can persevere in the face of all odds, one stands out from others.
7. Respect others and look within
Our ancestors taught us to love and respect others, because you can only earn respect by giving it. We also need to look within to correct our own mistakes.
8. Protect the environment
Practice environmental protection and leave the next generation a better Earth. In fact, now many people have money, electricity, and are living a comfortable life, but they often ignore the concept of environmental protection.
For example, when you remodel your home, have you considered the environmental impact of the amount and kinds of materials that you are using? Or have you considered whether or not the animal products you use come from a protected species?
9. Educate and train people around you
We not only need to learn and read, but we also need to motivate people around us to learn. By doing so we are creating an ideal environment to improve our own learning, and also to inspire the people around us.
10. Acquire a friendly connection with the outside world
Accepting the outside world, being open to new developments, and continuing to discover and learn new things is an important capability which will help to improve society.
If parents can help their children to acquire these 10 qualities, the lives of their children will be enriched forever.
