Snapping turtles are big, mean, and dangerous. They have a nasty bite. But in some areas, especially on roads near lakes in Canada and the United States, you may cross paths with them while driving.

You are most likely to see the common snapping turtle. But if you see the much heavier alligator snapping turtle, just run.
