After the June 4 massacre, most media around the world published the picture of an unarmed young man using his body to block a tank from moving forward.

The young man was Wang Weilin. Foreign media even called him the hero of the 20th century. Jiang Zemin was very uncomfortable about Wang Weilin, and Wang’s presence might be the hidden cause of the redressing of the June 4 incident.

Jiang then ordered Wang Weilin’s arrest and secret execution.

In 2000, CBS veteran reporter Wallace interviewed Jiang. During the interview, Wallace showed photos of Wang Weilin and asked: “Do you admire the courage of this young man?” Jiang answered: “He has not been arrested, and I don’t know his whereabouts.”

Another hero of the June 4 massacre is 38 Army Commander Xu Qin Xian. He disobeyed orders and refused to shoot students, and was sentenced 5 years imprisonment in a military court.

Jiang Zemin was the biggest gainer from the June massacre, but he has lived in fear that someday the incident would be redressed and Zhao Ziyang would be vindicated. The photo of Zhao, who went to Tiananmen Square to see the students, showed Zhao’s unwillingness to hurt the students.

What bothers Jiang the most is that every year around June 4, the photo of  Wang Weilin appears on many newspapers. Obviously, it is more important for Jiang to play it down and distort the memory of the entire population about the June 4 incident to ensure that there is no threat to his high position and power. Some people were even tortured to distort the truth.
