A Short Film About Illustration (The Finest Occupation)

British artist Temujin Doran, from Studio Canoe, wrote this neat poem about illustration, narrated it, and made it into a short film. It’s over 4 years old, but hasn’t lost it’s charm. Illustration (The Finest Occupation) is under 2 minutes, and has a handful of wonderful illustrations to match the words. It has just the right balance of music.

The poem is a pretend, fictitious congratulatory letter written by a proud tutor to a recent graduate. The artist wrote it during his last year of art school (studying illustration).

Here are the first 20 seconds worth of the film/illustration/poem:

Of creative demonstration (Image: StudioCanoe via Screenshot/Vimeo)

And ratifying observation (Image: StudioCanoe via Screenshot/Vimeo)

Of the intended subjectation (Image: StudioCanoe via  Screenshot/Vimeo)

With alarming innovation (Image: StudioCanoe via Screenshot/Vimeo)

And shining punctuation (Image: StudioCanoe via Screenshot/Vimeo)

Of all relevant information (Image: StudioCanoe via Screenshot/Vimeo)

Done with stoic consideration. (Image: StudioCanoe via Screenshot/Vimeo)
