Health is an important issue in modern society; everybody wants to keep fit. Sina net published a story about a female centenarian, Chen Guoqing, in China who has lived for more than 110 years, but has remained healthy without suffering from any chronic diseases. Here are her secrets for living a healthy life:
- Eating only two meals every day
Usually, she has her breakfast between 8 a.m. and 9 a.m., and lunch between 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. She doesn’t eat any dinner. She might take some cookies if she is really hungry in the evening.
- Eating 4-treasure porridge every day
These four treasures refer to rice, red beans, corn starch, and dates cooked together in a pressure cooker and made into porridge to serve as her breakfast. Sometimes oats, millet, or yams might be added.
- No more than 3 pieces of meat eaten at any meal
Her lunch is even simpler, mainly consisting of vegetables. Every one or two days she eats a small amount of meat (no more than 3 pieces each meal). She does not smoke, nor does she drink any wine.
- Getting exercise regularly
She enjoys getting exercise. Even at her age, she still does whatever housework she can do, such as mopping the floor or washing clothes. She uses hot water to wash her feet every evening.
- Do not take shots if taking medicine can solve the problems
She believes that taking shots will develop resistance in the body, so she prefers to take medicine instead of taking shots if she becomes ill.
- Maintaining a peaceful mind
She has maintained a peaceful mind throughout her life. She is grateful for what she owns and does not complain about what she does not own. Sometimes this mentality is better than any medicine for keeping illnesses away.
