This is a classic Chinese way to cook Chinese Flowing Cabbage, or choy sum. Choy sum is a leafy vegetable commonly used in Chinese cuisine. It is a member of the Brassica genus and the Brassicaceae (mustard) family. Choy sum is a transliteration of the Cantonese name (菜心), which can be literally translated as “heart of the vegetable.”

Prep time: 5-10 minutes

Cooking time: approximately 5 minutes

Ingredients: 250 grams choy sum, 20-30 grams fresh garlic (4-5 cloves), 2 tbsp oil (your choice of oil), and salt.

Steps:

  1. Bring 2-3 cups of water to the boil in a pot.
  2. While the water is heating up, wash the choy sum, and chop the garlic.
  3. Put the choy sum into the boiling water for 1 minute.
  4. Heat the oil in a pan and add the garlic. When you smell the odor of the garlic, it’s time to add the choy sum and stir fry for 2 minutes. Add salt to taste and serve. Enjoy.
