Most professionals recommend fruits for daily consumption, as they are rich in antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals. However, not all fruit is made the same, and different fruits have different properties. Do you know which fruit is good for what in terms of traditional Chinese medicine?

These fruits can boost your health

Kiwi

Kiwi fruit is thought to clear the body’s internal heat. It is high in antioxidants, which help boost immunity and strengthen blood circulation.

Bananas, strawberries, and hawthorn

The high potassium content of bananas can help lower blood pressure and the risk of heart disease. Strawberries contain high amounts of pectin and antioxidants, which can help fight arteriosclerosis. Hawthorn is a digestive aid. It can also boost cardiac output by helping to reduce cholesterol deposits on the arterial wall and protect blood vessels by lowering blood viscosity.

Mulberries and grapes

Mulberries invigorate and nourish the blood, nurture the eyes, and add luster to hair. Grapes can nurture the liver and kidneys, provide the body with a boost of energy, and increase blood circulation. When consuming grapes for their health benefits, it’s most effective to blend whole grapes, including their skin and seeds, into a smoothie. It’s also important to consume organic grapes, as grapes are very efficient at absorbing any impurities in the soil.

Papaya

Stomach problems seem to be becoming increasingly common these days. Staying up late at night, rising late in the morning, or working night shifts can all disrupt the body’s functions, upsetting one’s digestion. Papaya can help to comfort an upset stomach.

Starfruit, pineapples, dragon fruit

Eating sliced starfruit with a fine sprinkling of pure Himalayan or sea salt may help promote digestion and prevent excess acid. Pineapple is said to be both a digestive aid and a diuretic. It contains the enzyme bromelain, which can help reduce bloating, especially after consuming abundant meat. Dragon fruit is a good laxative. Eating dragon fruit may boost your elimination if your digestive system is overworked or weakened.

Apples and longan

Apples are high in zinc and can promote brain development and boost memory function. Longan fruit can help to clear the mind and recharge the body. However, it’s best avoided when the mouth is dry or inflamed. The fruit has a hot nature that can worsen such conditions.

Citrus fruits

Citrus fruits — oranges, lemons, grapefruit, and limes — have uplifting properties. You can use their essential oils to help invigorate the senses and calm the nerves. Their aroma may also work as an appetite booster. These fruits are also rich in vitamin C — a powerful antioxidant that can help the body fight illness.

Loquats and pears

Loquat fruit can help alleviate throat discomfort, coughing, and phlegm build-up. Fresh pears can also clear the throat and cool the body. Steamed pears are said to increase saliva secretion and preserve the voice. However, pears should be consumed in moderation, as their cool nature can over-chill the body.

Peaches

Peaches are a laxative and slimming aid that can be enjoyed in any quantity as long as your digestion is strong. Consume organic tree-ripened peaches whenever possible, as they have the most nutrient content.
