    An escalator malfunction at the Guangzhou East Railway Station injured nearly a dozen people on August 26, leaving two children seriously wounded.

    The moving stairway suddenly accelerated during rush hour at around 6 a.m. causing a people pile-up. Several people were crushed or knocked over, and received scrapes and cuts.

    A 12-year-old guy had to have surgery because her ear was torn, and another child needed treatment for broken bones, according to the Southern Metropolis Daily.
