Chinese Propaganda Tool Invades Western Schools

The Confucius Institute sounds like a harmless language program being offered at universities and even high schools. However, over the past few years they have become increasingly controversial, and have been accused of spying. The former head of China’s Propaganda Department called them “an important part of China’s overseas propaganda set-up.”

The Toronto District School Board almost got it’s very own Confucius Institute until parents protested, revealed some very shady dealings, and may have led to the retirement of Chris Bolton, the TDSB chair. There has also been a backlash at other universities around the world. Is Chinese propaganda invading our schools?
