Table Tennis Pro Loses $45,000 for Kicking Barrier After Win (Video)

Chinese athlete Zhang Jike won the 2014 Liebherr Men’s World Cup in Germany on Oct. 26, but was stripped of the prize money due to his passionate post-match behavior.

After winning the last point against his competitor Ma Long, the champion kicked and broke the advertizing board barrier around the arena.

Many Chinese bloggers commented about the outburst on Sina Weibo, saying:

Zhang Jike won the game but lost his character

As punishment, the ITTF decided that Zhang would not receive the prize money, costing him $45,000.

Zhang later apologized for his impulsive behavior, saying: “I’m very sorry for what I did. It was not acceptable behavior, and I apologize,” according to NTD Television.
