Here’s What You Can Do With Those Old Glass Bottles

In the U.S., over 6 million tons of glass were thrown out in the past year alone. Over the past 25 years, every year there have been 6 to 9 million tons of glass steadily thrown away. The Container Recycling Institute estimates that equates to over 22 billion bottles.

That works out at about 73 bottles for every single American, every year.

Here are some things you can do with wine bottles instead of throwing them out.

Chalkboard vase

By spraying a wine bottle with chalkboard paint, it allows you to add a customized message and change it whenever you desire. You could even dress it up with a piece of ribbon or string.

Wind chimes

These look gorgeous, and produce a range of amazing sounds.

Hurricane lanterns

These wine bottles will protect the candles from any gust of wind while they’re outdoors, and can look amazing. Try using different colors and sizes.

Self-watering planters

This is a really decorative way of growing your plants, and it looks even more interesting seeing the root system of the plant.

Just in case you were wondering how to cut the bottles without a glass cutter, here is a really simple and easy way to do it. All you need is:

  • nail polish remover/acetone
  • string
  • matches/a lighter
  • sink filled with cold water
  • a few minutes!
