‘Equals’ Asks What Love Feels Like in a World with No Emotions

A regular at film festivals, director Drake Doremus hopes his new film Equals can get some mainstream love. Equals is about the growing feelings between a man and woman who exist in a stark white, emotionless future.

What if emotion in general was outlawed, and people could be punished for falling in love? That’s what Equals asks in a world where love is a strange thing, and anything that hinders productivity is forbidden.

Doremus usually makes films about forbidden love, awkward love, and heart wrenching love, but never before has he taken his love themes into the science fiction realm and used them to construct such an extreme scenario.

Equals will be released by DirectTV Cinema for VOD on May 26, and have a limited theatrical release on July 15.
