Prince Dies Aged 57, Leaving Behind Decades of Pop Music Genius

Prince died at his Paisley Park home and studio, just outside Minneapolis. Authorities arrived to find him unresponsive in an elevator, and pronounced him dead at 10:07 a.m.

The cause of death is still unknown, though on April 15 his plane made an emergency landing, after which he was rushed to the hospital, and later released.

Unexpectedly, that wasn’t the end of the saga. The connection with the earlier incident and the cause of death is still unknown at this point, but fans and peers in the music world have already begun mourning the loss of one of the most prolific and enigmatic recording artists in pop music.

Prince is one of the highest selling music artists in history, and was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2004. Besides his own albums, he’s written countless songs under pseudonyms for other artists. Few artists have been able to match Prince in terms of sheer output.

His final album, HITnRUN Phase Two, was released in December. It was his thirty-ninth studio album.
