Since the Yu Menglong case went viral, two Taiwanese hosts of the YouTube channel “204 Files” have repeatedly claimed to “connect” with Yu Menglong’s spirit using an electronic voice phenomenon (EVP) device.

They said the method scans radio frequencies rapidly to capture supposed spirit responses.

The videos quickly went viral on social media. One viewer commented: “I already suspected it was him! Same birthday, same sacrifice rumors. Only he could silence the whole country!”

On Oct. 24, 204 Files released another video, saying the latest session produced an “unusually large amount of information.”

To avoid missing any detail, they slowed the entire recording to 0.25 speed and replayed it repeatedly.

What they claimed to hear next, they said, “sent chills down our spines.”

In the recording, one host greets Yu Menglong’s spirit and asks directly: “If you could confront one person right now, who would it be?”

According to the hosts, the EVP replied twice: “Fan Xiaohua… Fan.”

They continued: “What made you feel most betrayed?”

The device responded: “Red that doesn’t reach the stomach.”

The hosts interpreted this as referring to the rumored “red USB drive,” said to contain evidence of money laundering and arms trading.

The name ‘Yi Yang’ and a new target

Then came the most shocking moment.

When asked what might happen next, the EVP allegedly spoke two clear syllables: “Yi Yang.”

Viewers were stunned. Many took it as a reference to Chinese actor Jackson Yee (Yi Yang Qianxi)—suggesting he could be the next victim.

Coincidentally, just days after Yu Menglong’s death, Jackson Yee held an unexpected livestream on Sept. 16—his first in eight years

He appeared distant and quiet, stacking stones, sighing, and murmuring “so boring.”

The 17-minute video sparked speculation: some saw signs of depression; others believed he was being forced to appear and that the stone-stacking gesture symbolized “burying the truth.”

The timing—so soon after Yu’s death—fueled chilling interpretations.

Now, with the EVP audio allegedly mentioning “Yi Yang,” the coincidences only deepened public anxiety.

Symbolism and the ‘Ritual Stage’ theory

A Taiwanese metaphysics researcher, Zhong Yilin, known for her studies in Meihua Yishu divination, offered another reading.

She claimed Jackson Yee might be “walking the same doomed path” as Yu Menglong.

At Yee’s recent concert, Zhong noted, the stage design featured red hair, a red vest, and a black background, resembling a “sacrifice candle.”

Fans were reportedly asked to bring “soil” to the venue—interpreted by Zhong as an energy-absorbing ritual.

Combined with the dark stage and fiery imagery, she said, the entire show resembled a “sacrificial ceremony.”

Adding to the intrigue, online users cited corporate-registry data showing that Jackson Yee’s company, Beijing Jiumude Cultural Development Co., Ltd., had registered trademarks related to “arms and fireworks.”

Such categories, commenters noted, are normally restricted—prompting suspicion that larger forces control the industry and that celebrities may simply be “scapegoats.”

When scandals erupt, they said, the true operators have already withdrawn.

The analysis suggested that China’s entertainment boom is an illusion built by red capital: from film investments and endorsements to music licensing, money flows reveal political ties. Behind the glamour stand state-owned enterprises, military networks, and elite political families.

Examples often cited include:

  • Li Xiaoyong, son of former premier Li Peng, reportedly involved in arms smuggling;
  • Businessman Xu Ming, once financier of Bo Xilai, who died mysteriously while his vast fortune remained under family control.

Observers argue these are not coincidences but features of “red capitalism”—a fusion of power and wealth where entertainment serves as a facade.

The ‘red USB drive’ and a chain of secrets

At the center of the Yu Menglong mystery is the rumored “red USB drive,” said to contain evidence linking money laundering and weapons deals across the entertainment industry.

In the Oct. 24 204 Files video, the hosts asked where the USB drive had ended up.

The EVP allegedly replied: “Fan Shiqi.”

When they asked, “What is the biggest secret in this whole affair?” the device again said: “Fan Shiqi.”

They then pressed: “Does the USB contain proof of laundering or arms trade?”

The voice replied: “There’s a conversation,” followed immediately by the name “Xi Jinping.”

If true, they suggested, Yu’s statement that “the greatest secret is Fan Shiqi” could mean that he held the USB’s secrets.

The hosts asked further: “Do you know how high this conspiracy reaches?”

Responses reportedly included: “Don’t tell you,” “transactions behind,” and “the Party’s state media.”

When asked, “Was your death really part of a sacrifice?” the EVP answered: “Yes… high-level… sacrifice.”

To “When will the truth be revealed?” it replied: “December… USB.”

Finally, asked who was the most powerful person at the gathering that night, the voice said: “Should say… assassination… police.”

The hosts concluded that these clues might be “coming true one by one.”
