On Sunday, March 1, U.S. President Donald Trump announced that the U.S. military had sunk nine Iranian naval vessels and partially destroyed the Iranian Navy headquarters.

“I have just learned that we have destroyed and sunk nine Iranian naval vessels, some of which were quite large and important,” Trump wrote on the Truth Social platform. “We are pursuing the remaining ships, and they will soon join the others at the bottom of the sea! In another strike, we significantly destroyed their naval headquarters. Apart from that, their navy operates very well.”

Trump also stated that the U.S.-Israeli bombing campaign against Iran had killed at least 48 Iranian leaders and described the offensive as highly aggressive.

Earlier on Sunday, the U.S. military reported sinking one Iranian warship and called on Iranian forces to lay down their arms and leave their positions.

The U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM), which is coordinating ongoing U.S. military operations against Iran, reported that the U.S. military had sunk an Iranian Jamaran-class light frigate at a pier in Chah Bahar in the Gulf of Oman.

CENTCOM posted on X: “As the President has said, members of the Iranian armed forces, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), and police must lay down your weapons and abandon your ships.” The statement referenced remarks made by Trump on Saturday.

Satellite images showed a vessel at the port city of Konarak in southeastern Iran on Saturday emitting thick black smoke while docked.

It has not yet been confirmed whether the vessel was a Jamaran-class light frigate. Konarak is located on Iran’s southeastern tip along the Gulf of Oman.

Strikes enter their second day

Following the assassination of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, U.S.-Israeli strikes against Iran entered their second day.

Early Sunday, after the Israeli military announced widespread strikes on central Tehran, massive explosions shook the Iranian capital.

Earlier, the IRGC stated that they had attacked nearly 30 U.S. bases in the Middle East early Sunday. These attacks were described as one of the most intense offensives in the regime’s history.

As Iran continued heavy strikes across multiple Middle Eastern countries, three U.S. service members have already been killed. CENTCOM reported that five additional U.S. soldiers were seriously injured.

Trump had previously warned that American heroes might be sacrificed as large-scale U.S.-Israeli airstrikes on Iran provoke Tehran’s retaliation.

According to The Sun, hundreds of British soldiers in Bahrain and Iraq narrowly avoided attacks.

The deployment to the region comes as the U.S. continues to put pressure on Iran over its nuclear program and its response to recent anti-government protests. Iran claims four missiles hit USS Lincoln, US denies

On Sunday afternoon, the IRGC claimed to have fired four ballistic missiles at Trump’s USS Abraham Lincoln aircraft carrier.

The Economic Times reported that U.S. military officials confirmed the rockets did not approach the carrier, which remains actively deployed in the area.

The USS Abraham Lincoln is the fifth Nimitz-class aircraft carrier in the U.S. Navy. It carries F-35 stealth fighter jets, which are capable of evading radar detection.

CENTCOM stated that no Iranian missiles hit the carrier and confirmed that flight operations on board continued. The USS Abraham Lincoln is part of the U.S. military’s response under “Operation Epic Fury.”

After previously warning the IRGC against retaliation, Trump vowed to strike Iran with “unprecedented force.”

Subsequently, Tehran launched indiscriminate attacks on U.S. military bases in the Middle East as well as Gulf countries, including Israel, Dubai, and Bahrain.
